A Note From Brave Noise & WOTB: We Stand with SA Survivors, Women, Nonbinary & LGBTQ+
We won't stay silent.
UPDATE FROM BRAVE NOISE:
At Brave Noise, we refuse to be silent. We have always stood for a safe, inclusive, and discrimination-free beer and beverage industry, knowing that our work is only as strong as our commitment to one another. In this challenging time, our mission stands stronger than ever as we face the harsh realities of a U.S. political system that continues to uphold structures often undermining the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.
We recognize that the political landscape profoundly impacts our lives, communities, and the progress we’ve made together. The recent election of a president with a history of sexual abuse allegations ((Sources: The Guardian, The 19th) serves as a stark reminder of the misogyny embedded in these systems—a system that frequently shields those in power from accountability while silencing the voices of survivors and marginalized communities.
Though we launched this initiative in the U.S., our reach and our mission are global. We are committed to calling for change on an international scale and acknowledging the unique challenges that women, non-binary individuals, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ communities face every day. At Brave Noise, we will continue to amplify voices, support survivors, and stand united for equality and justice worldwide.
The impact of the 2024 U.S. election results reaches beyond politics; they reinforce a culture that disempowers those already vulnerable to harassment, discrimination, and abuse, both in and beyond our industry. Policies that threaten reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ protections intensify the challenges faced by individuals who are often doubly marginalized in the workplace. These political shifts do not just occur in isolation—they set a tone that influences industries, including beer and hospitality, where women and LGBTQ+ individuals already contend with toxic environments and power imbalances.
With Brave Noise, our mission has always been to build a beer and hospitality industry free from discrimination, harassment, and abuse. Our work through the Bevolution Brave Voices Fund—which provides financial assistance, legal aid, job coaching, and mental health support to survivors—becomes even more critical in light of these political developments. We stand with those facing toxic environments, offering resources to help them move forward and thrive in safer, more inclusive spaces.
Recognizing Systemic Misogyny
The foundations of our political and social systems are steeped in patriarchy and misogyny, which affect policy decisions around women’s rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and SA survivor support. These realities restrict everything from access to healthcare to workplace protections, creating environments where abuse and discrimination can thrive. Now, more than ever, we must challenge this status quo in our own spaces, advocating for policies that respect and protect everyone’s rights.
For those looking to deepen their understanding and advocacy, we recommend these resources:
The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC): Resources on policies affecting gender justice and the rights of marginalized communities (nwlc.org)
Human Rights Campaign (HRC): LGBTQ+ advocacy and insights into policies that impact LGBTQ+ rights, from healthcare access to workplace protections (hrc.org)
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network): The largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S., with advocacy, resources, and a national hotline for survivors (rainn.org)
National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV): Resources for ending domestic violence and supporting those facing abuse (nnedv.org)
Outright International: Advocates globally for LGBTQ+ rights through research, advocacy, and partnerships, working to dismantle discriminatory policies and advance equality. (outrightinternational.org)
Breaking Silence: Empowers abuse survivors to speak out, fostering support and advocating for policies that prevent gender-based violence and create safer communities. (breakingsilence.org)
This is a call to action for the brewing and hospitality industries to foster environments where every person feels respected, valued, and safe. Real change starts in our communities, and by prioritizing inclusion and speaking out against abuse, we can build a better future.
At Brave Noise, we believe in the power of collaboration to enact change. Join us in making a difference by showing your values, amplifying underrepresented voices, advocating for survivors, and standing against injustice.
Let’s keep making BRAVE NOISE—one that echoes across the beer and beverage communities and beyond.
